Yellowed Headlights?
Guys,
Just wanted to share my experience. Picked up my first SC this past Friday. Car had slightly yellowed headlights as I'm sure many of you have experienced. Drove the car Friday nite and was disgusted at the poor lighting. Not knowing if the original bulbs had ever been replaced, I set out to rectify the issue this evening. Took a trip to Walmart. (no I'm not a redneck
) Picked up some of the "Super Blue" bulbs, 9006 I believe? They're not blue just bright as a mofugga. Picked up some Wet/Dry 800, 1000, 1500, & 2000-grit sandpaper, one can of Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound (red can) and one can of Turtle Wax Polishing Compound (green can). Got home, wet down the headlights. Started off with the 800 grit, sanded down the light with a good bit of pressure, and the "pulp" coming up off the light was noticeably yellow/dingy. Washed the light off, and rewet it. Continued on each light with the 800 until the "pulp" was just opaque, kinda like sugar water. Then hit em up with the 1000, 1500, and 2000 in the same fashion, with the lights getting clearer each time. After this the lights were still hazy from the sandpaper. Dried off the lights, then worked them over with the rubbing compound. After rubbing them good, wiped them clean. Grabbed a nice soft cloth baby diaper/polishing cloth and polished the lights up with the polishing compound. Results? Lights are no longer yellow, and are now just as clear and shiney as the glass bright headlights next to them.
