Question 1996 ES300 Driver seat not low enough

I just got a very low mileage 96 ES300. Everything seems to work including drivers seat goes up & down - BUT - at lowest point my head hits roof. I am 5 feet 8 inches tall. Passenger seat gives me a couple more inches. I can see nothing under seat obstructing & motor works quietly to raise, lower, tilt, fwd backward etc. I know the ES 300 had to accommodate drivers taller than me. Any suggestions ?? I am new to this forum & not sure I will be able to find answers unless automatically emailed??? so an direct email to me would be greatly appreciated doberdawg@comcast.net thanxxxxxxxxxx

this is a weird question. But if the seats work fine then there is nothing you can do. Its designed like that. i too have that same thing going but i do recline the seat back so i dont hit the roof.
One thing you can do is make sure the rook linear is not falling or loose. Just press it and see
Well if everything works fine then there is nothing you can do

You say in part: "One thing you can do is make sure the rook linear is not falling or loose.
Just press it and see" What is a rook linear?

I'm 5 feet 10 inches and I have no problems... Is your headliner sagging? Has your seat been altered or changed? Maybe they did a botch job on it? Let's see some pics of your car and the seat...

I don't have pics, but to your questions no sagging headliner. This car has 98760 orig miles from original owner. It is a well maintained gold series in mint condition. No modifications, no tears or scars anywhere on or in car. Another poster suggested tilting the seat which I did & it works, but I am not comfortable driving "kicked back". I felt sure Lexus designed cars for drivers 6 feet so am baffled. I expected an obstruction toy, piece of wood etc. under seat but not the case. I suppose it is possible that a perfectly quiet motor simply lost part of it's range? I don't remember seeing "memory" seats in the owners manual I will check as if the memory needs over riding that could explain it.

unrelated, but if you have a 96 there are 3 things I am curious about. In front of the shifter is a button & the manual lsays push when you want more power. It is not the O/D button on the shifter. I am curious whether it momentarily injects more fuel, or drops a gear??

And there is a remote volume button on the dash, as the only remote function on the 96 is entry via a small button on the key (not key chain as later models) I can't figure the purpose of the button. Finally, I am not sure how to set the alarm.

BTW I have the original window sticker & every single receipt for every service & repair (even tires & batteries) from day 1 & the belt was changed 4K ago which is why I bought it. Love it but fine the 98 Honda Accord EX V6 superior. I think the 98 Lexus caught up?
