I bought a pair of Silverstars almost a year ago to replace the foglights in my '02 RX300. I just got around to installing them last weekend because I tried a few times to remove the headlight buckets, but couldn't. Then in another post on this forum, I saw that there are two bolts that had to be removed from the back by taking apart the front wheel wheel trim. It took me over a half hour to do each side, but finally got them in. I didn't notice much difference between the Silverstars and the standard Sylvania Halogens that came in the foglights. What really bites is that 2 days later, my right one is burned out already. I made sure not to touch the bulbs during installation. Now I've got to go through this whole mess again.
Has anyone else had an experience with the premature failure of Silverstars? I have a pair of 9007 Sylvania Cool Blue's in the headlights of my wife's Ford Expedition and they've been fine for almost 3 years now.
Since you claim to have taken the proper precautions about not touching the glass, there's a good chance, since it failed so soon, of it simply being a dud. Don't have my Silverstar packages handy to see if there's any type of warranty.
Mine have been running since March without any problems, 9006's in the low beams of a '96 ES.
