ES 300 Clear Foglights Tutorial (with pictures)
Ok, I cleared one of my lights last night. When I finally got a ratchet the right size, i got the fog out ok. Then I had to get a screwdriver that fit the screws around the metal bracket holding the yellow in. i got it off, then shook the light a little and pulled at the yellow and it came out. What I had not realized all of this time we've been talking about this, is that the yellow isn't just some glass, it is a lense that is responsible for making your light look like it does. i put the light back into the car and turned them on. my white one does not shine but only a little in front of the car, since now it has no lense to spread out the light. Yes it is brighter, meaning that it will blind some people too. my recommendation is that if you want to use your rain lights, don't take out the yellow.
Nope, it's just that there is no diffusing lense to separate the light out more. So unless you have a clear lense or something, it will not be the same as with the lenses in there. So I am putting mine back in, or calling LEXUS dealer and checking the price of getting a clear lense (maybe I can get one from a 95 ES...)
I personally like the yellow foglights in the '92-'94 models. They make the car look distinctive at night, and set it apart from all the cars out there with the regular clear fogs. It's easy to identify an early ES300 at night because of the foglights, if they're on. Also, yellow light has been proven to be the best illuminator in fog, rain, and other inclement driving conditions. This mod doesn't make much sense to me, since it will decrease the effectiveness of the lights plus needlessly blind oncoming drivers.
Yes, all true. i went ahead and cleared my fogs all the way. I like the way they look now. I liked the yellow, but I like the white better. The only times I see yellow fogs on the ES is when someone is driving with them on at night, just to look cool. Don't drive with the yellow fogs on unless it is rainy or foggy. I think that doesn't look good at all. The white, you can drive with them on more because it looks really good. I want to find a way to change my lights so that I can have the parking lamps and fogs on only, not the headlights. So that I can drive like that at twighlight
I agree that the yellow fogs should not be used unless its raining or whatever. I usually don't use the foglights on the ES, especially since they can't be turned on with only the parking lamps like you noted.
inside the light, there is the satellite mirror. in front of the bottom of the mirror is this blacking peice of plastic to keep the light from relecting off the bottom of the mirror and into the eyes. the linse bends the light down. i am studying this in my physics class now. i asked my teeacher about it and he drew me a diagram. but you need the lense to get the light back on the road. maybe if someone with a 95 wants to trade...
