Default head lights high beam and halogen

sorry if i misspelled halogen first off. but i was wondering if its possible to just swap these bulb out for different ones to get it to look white with out going hid conversion i was looking at bulbs and the closest i found were 9006 55w and for the 9005 a 64w the original for the 9006 is 51w and for the 9005 is 60w was wondering if the bulbs would blow if i used them? if so any other bulbs that produce a 6k type white light i can just plug in to replace the stock? if not im guessing the only alternative is hid? if not please let me know sorry for all the words hopefully you guys can help thanks!(btw already changed the day lights and turn signals to white and planing on making my own clear side markers and poping a white light bulb in there)

scshinobi -

There are many bulbs on the market that can give you a whiter look but more than likely what they will be are higher wattage bulbs that have a very blue tint to them. This blue tint fools our eyes into thinking that the light emitted is whiter than our normal halogen bulbs.

There is one brand of bulb that some have had luck with on here and that's the Sylvania Silverstar type of bulb. The only drawback is that they can be quite costly at $40 a pair. Some people use the higher wattage Piaa bulbs too but those are even more expensive.

Either way, the higher wattage bulbs are detrimental to headlight plugs and pull more power from your factory electrical system. Basically- subwoofers and high wattage halogen bulbs just don't mix.

I suggest saving up and going with a reliable HID kit. If you want a little more brightness without a lot of money, maybe you can slightly modify a 9005 bulb to fit in the 9006 plug? they're very similar.

good luck and welcome to the CL family.

c.

thanks for the info and welcome. i was planing on going hid for the halogens from the start but for the high beam i was told that even if i got a bulb that emits white light during the day it would just be yellow because they only use a certain percentage for the day but when turned on to high beam they would be white. i have 2 piaa bulbs and the rest polarg they are blue tinted glass but emit white light i have installed these bulbs in my reverse light interior day time runing lights and for the license plate they seem to be good bulbs but i have no idea how they will last
