Default Do i have to get a kit?

I have a 98 gs300, and i dont have HID lights, just the normal yellow bulbs cars have been using for a while..

my question, in order to use HID lights do i have to buy a converter kit, or can i just put in the bulbs and they would work.

Im pretty sure ill have to get a kit, but can someone explain why?

For this type of question most people would tell you to do a search. You would have to get a kit because HID lights utilize more power when they first turn on so that's why you need a ballast and igniter.
