I did this mod as well on my 97 Camry, not quite a Lexus, but Lexus is still part of Toyota =D.
Two 12" CCFL tubes, ordered from ebay though. Simple mod, find positive and negative ends for the light bulb in there and hook it up and glue them in. These can be sound activated as well. Camera's a bit blurry, but you get the idea.
I did this mod and it's well worth it...definitely easier to see what's in the trunk at night...plus it looks cool...now just have to replace all the interior bulbs with white LEDs.
Ok, I did this mod to my GS in the UK. See pic below.
I have EXACTLY the same set of tubes, except one was white, and one was blue.
When I tried to plug both tubes in the inverter, I found the dome fuse blew in the passenger footwell. If I put just one tube in the inverter, my fuse doesn't blow. I think the stock fuse is 20A. HOW can you guys get away with plugging two tubes in???? ANyway, the light tube was hanging down a bit (was stuck with velcro) and after 2 weeks with it working, it's now blown.
we all used the white tubes. if you're blowing a fuse for your cabin lights, just get a bigger fuse to handle the added power. we're not talking about a ridiculous amount of power here so a bigger fuse shouldn't be that big of a deal.
different light colors use different amounts of power. you may be overtaxing your cabin fuse simply because you have blue lights.
when i did my bmw cabin light mod, i used power from the moonroof button. if i plugged in blue or green LED lights, everything was fine. if I plugged in amber colored LED lights, the moonroof would automatically open.
HAAHAHHAAA imagine my face the first time that happened!!
