refinish headlight lenses? what sander
Question for you guys...
Personally I have sanded/polished my lights as well, and so far no problems with this issue.
I've been reading stuff on plastic polishing and they all seem to say something about "not polishing polycarbonate". For those who dont know, most headlight lenses are made of polycarbonate. Anyways, the reason is beacuse there is supposedly a UV coating that prevents the plastic from going yellow. So, if I sand and polish the lights. Wouldn't that strip off the coating and cause the headlights to start yellowing?
Or has nobody thought of this problem yet?

I got cold feet when I tried to do mine - after using 1000 grit, it made the lens all scratchy and cloudy. I cant even imagine using a lower grit than that. Takes guts or experience to completely cloud over your lens like that, neither of which I had in this case. I wound up using light sanding with 2000 grit, then rubbing comp, then swirl remover, then PlastX. Didn't get the bigger dings out, but was OK for me.
ive polished other things before and it doesnt bother me getting a clear lense cloudy. as long as i have all the tools to make it clear again...thus my initial question.

That "polycarbonate" stuff is located on the inside of the lense, I found out the hard way
