3rd Brake light LED conversion.... LS400
Hey guys, on my quest to convert everything on my car to LED i decided to tackle my 3rd brake light, seemed easy because that light only has on and off. Here are some pictures, it was VERY easy to do this. I bought my 9" LED strip off of ebay. Anything larger than 9" will not fit, i even had to sand down part of the board to fit my 9" in. Any questions are welcome as always!
Does anyone know what spec resistor i need to put on that line so my "burnt tail light bulb" warning light will turn off?
PS. I am doing a write up on how to change the LEDs on the window switches on the doors, it is very easy, im changing mine to blue and MUCH brighter, they were never bright enough for me IMO, so that will be coming soon also

Pictures of it working, first is with flash and second is without

I think im just going to buy one of those resistors that you install on your turn signal line if you want to put LEDs there. I figure that should get the job done. Ill let you guys know when i get around to it.
Those load equalizer resistors are to simulate a 27 watt load. That's overkill for your 3rd brake light circuit.
If you plan on converting the whole car to LED, you may as well just remove the bulb in the dash because your future LED tails and brakes will trigger it, too. And splicing in resistors to draw all that current is a waste of electrons and defeats the low-current properties of LEDs. It will generate more heat, and dim your LEDs.
So just chuck that bulb. With all LEDs, who needs it anyway? They never go out.
I tossed mine when I did the 97+ tails with LED brakes. I have several conversions that would trip the light, so I just removed the bulb instead of trying to trick it.
Good luck!
