Default high-mounted stop light bulb replacement

i have just joined club lexus, and i hope this is the right place to ask this question. i have a 1998 lexus es300 with the high-mounted stop light bulb burned out.. the bulb is in the woofer assembly on the rear deck. since the bulb cannot be accessed from the truck, it must be accessed by removing the entire woofer assembly or the speaker grill on top. can anyone tell me how to get to the bulb without breaking something first?

Your assumption is right sir.

To get to the bulb, use both hands to firmly grasp both ends of the subwoofer cover, and slowly pull the cover towards you (i.e. away from the rear windshield). It may not budge at first, but keep trying and you will get it. The cover is held in place by (2) plastic pegs/clips mounted on the rear deck. Once the cover is removable, you should be able to see and access the high mount bulb. Reverse the steps to put the cover back in place, and you're all set.

You are right. I could not firmly grasp the ends of the subwoofer cover until I used some vinyl work gloves. At this point, it was a piece of cake. Thanks for the advice.
