Hello the OEM HIDs for GS' are D2Rs right? It has the black shielding.
Below is a picture of the two types.. I just want to confirm which one is which?
Reason i asked is because i bought 6000K non philips "D2R" bulbs and it fits and works fine but i noticed that it doesnt have the black shielding on it.. Does that mean its D2S? if so... then how come it fits in my car?.. hmmmmmm...

The one on the left is D2R (black shield) and the one on the right is D2S.

It's usually aftermarket plug and play HID kits that use re-based D2S bulbs...so being that you bought a non Philips bulb (which doesn't have the glare shield) leads me to believe that it could possibly be a D2S bulb. Although both D2S and D2R will fit in your car, the D2S bulb in a D2R housing will emit more glare than having a D2R bulb in there.

What does that black shield do anyways?
D2S bulbs are used primarily in projector HID setups. The beam pattern/cutoff is for the most part controlled by the projector characteristics so it is OK for all the light to be there.
For reflective setup, it is up to the reflectors and the bulb to control the light beam. The black shield blocks the light in certain directions to work in conjuction with the refectors to produce a more controlled beam pattern. This is why the GS (and other cars) HID and halogen headlights have different reflectors.
Your car does not care about any of this. It just knows that it needs to provide power to the HIDs when asked so everything should work. Whether or not it works optimally is another matter.

difference? Will i be able to notice a difference by changing it to D2R?
How do i measure proper cutoff?
Thanks again
more light, more glare (shooting up), same amount of usable light on the gnd (the extra light output goes to the sky)
as long as you put d2r bulb in the reflective housing, the cutoff is there. it's determined by the housing design
also, if you get a fully stock d2s bulb from factory (philips, osram, etc...), it should not fit the d2r housing. d2r and d2s base are a bit different.
