I could see this image going viral with snickering remarks. The pads really cost $3k? How do you "resurface" carbon rotors?

I would really love to know how much rotors cost. If pads are hovering above $3k, I can't imagine what replacement rotors would cost.

Although the brake pad prices are beyond nuts, this post has provided a trivia answer I have been looking for, the shop rate for LFA service.

It looks like the shop rate is $116 per hour, which I would imagine to be the same as for any other Lexus (great to see).

I do not believe the comment on the estimate regarding refacing the rotors was correct.

Ya know, as much of a Leuxs nut that I am and I do LOVE and RESPECT the Lexus LFA.

This would be a major turn off and wouldn't purchase one just for money involved in upkeep.

Granted I'm poor and wouldn't know how to approach owning a car like this but seems to me that upkeep may be alittle over priced.

Well, whether or not the upkeep is overpriced should be judged against other exotics, not other Lexuses. It would be nice if someone with ownership experience of exotic cars of the same caliber as the LFA can can share the costs of upkeep for meaningful comparison.

Jesus that brake job isnt bad at all. IS-F brakes are roughly about 2,500 for the fronts and about 1,500 for the rear (with rotor replacement of course)

Im just a bit confused? How can you think a car that is 380k and have just about 16 qts of 0-50wt mobil synthetic be the normal $50.00 oil change or $150.00 regular service at your lexus dealership.. Really think somone with that capasity to own a car like that will run to their local wal-mart or autozone and buy some oil and perform the oil change themselves? c'mon now guys think before you type!! its not your run-of-the-mil $34,000 IS250 !!

Please keep in mind that the rotors are going to be $5 to 7.5K each.

They are supposed to last the life of the car (as told to me by Lexus folks when I was at the Homestead event in 2010).

I believe in the last year someone posted some LFA parts prices and I noted that they had the rotors at like $500 each (totally an error in the pricing system) and I recommended that someone looking to make a buck could order a set and keep them in a safe place until there was a market.

My next door neighbor (right next door) owns a GT2 with Carbon brakes. He replaces pads on his @ every 7K miles and the cost is @ $1600 for the parts/pads. He walks out under $2500 per pad change.

There is a way to resurface rotors also. The rotors are Carbon/Carbon + Fibers not carbon fiber like we're used to talking about.

Think Diamonds and you'll get the idea of how they process the carbon to make rotors.

I understand! Me too!

I didn't ever think that a brake pad change on an LFA would be as cheap as my common IS. Or even close. But you can buy a custom spec Carbon BBK from AP racing for 15K.

The Lexus version is IMO, over priced.

Rotor x2 = 14K
Pads x? = 7K
Caliper x2 =?

Really?
