I never thought I would be saying this, but that Lexus is so much better looking than that Ferrari.

Why test/compare cars like the LF-A that are already sold out and no longer available for purchase?

1. So that the buyers that have committed to purchases can review an in-depth comparison and road test.

2. Because the car will become more readily available later. And when they do cross-shopping in this league of cars will take place.

3. Because many automotive enthusiasts (even if they are not likely to purchase the car) are interested.

Yes, in a straight line I had a feeling LFA will be very close to the 458 Italia.

Considering 599 GTB always hits 1/4 mile 11.2 secs @ 131 mph, the Wales elevation here made it over half a second slower. That also means, LFA at ground level will easily be a 11.1 - 11.3 secs @ 128 - 130 mph.

Launch control made all the difference here.

These minor quibbles aside, the LFA is an amazing car—and an amazing achievement. Out of the box, Toyota’s first supercar beats a Ferrari. Yeah, you read that correctly. If Toyota put the same soul and *passion into the rest of its cars, the company would be unbeatable.
if this was 30's, Italy would be declaring war now

Am I missing something here? Or did a major car-enthusiast magazine have access to 2 $400K+ cars...and shoot a grand total of 3 minutes of video?

Shocking indeed. To see none other than C&D give the LFA a win is surprising. The article is still full of mostly fail. C&D got the LFA's history wrong, it was never an "on again off again" project. It was always "on" from the very beginning. I stopped reading C&D a long time ago due to content fail in their articles. C&D however is useful for looking at performance specs and numbers.

Finally we see a test LFA with launch control, and 0-60 numbers are about where they should be, in the mid 3-second range.

Also with regards to this quote:

Isn't that what many Toyota supporters have been saying for years and years ?

Toyota will become a lot more sporty in the short-term future with Akio Toyoda in charge. The competition definitely has to worry.

No. The 599 (an to an extent the Enzo) are closer LFA competitors than the 458.

Not only is the 458 mostly aluminum, it also has a V8 engine and lastly it is a mid-engine vehicle.

That's like saying the Carrera GT's natural rival was the Ferrari F430, which would be incorrect.

Let's hope so. Some manufacturers have a nasty habit of not producing enough of what there is obviously a demand for. One classic recent example is the new Camaro...especially the SS.

The competition, though, didn't get to be the world's #1 manufacurer like Toyota did. And Toyota certainly didn't get there by building Porsches. Neither did GM, years ago when it held the #1 title.
