I've noticed something...

Whenever we compare regular sedans, we bicker about performance. But somehow in the exotic threads, value seems to come up a lot.

Family sedans are all about performance
Exotics are all about value

Yea that's about right

With the LA-F, Lexus have open the door to a new era. The Era of the Japanese supercar. Rather it will be a success still reminds to be seen. I think the price tags is too high, the front end look too plain and the exhaust looks gimmicky, but none the less, it puts up all the right numbers on the track. The success of the LA-F obviously will not be measure in volume sold but in the brand recognition of Lexus being a true contender in performance cars.

Default LFA Purchase Process for the US

The LFA is on the US Lexus Website.

There is a number to call for order info.

I signed up and here are a few details.

They will build a list of interested folks to a cut off (Feb 2010 I think).

Approved folks will be given 14 days to provide $10K at their dealer of choice to hold the production slot.

At some point after that you will meet with the LFA specialist at the dealer to configure the car as you wish. Another $50K is required at that point.

The cars will be on a 24 month lease with a purchase option.

The initial questions to the buyer are about intended use, what interested you in the vehicle and some explicit points about having to register in the US and the non transferable lease (i.e. cutting out the speculators).

I really like this approach as it seems to cut out the dealer favoritism stuff. The owner gets one first, then their buddy, etc.

There will be monthly updates to folks who are interested.

At this point they do not know if there will be a concierge to answer questions.

I also asked if a factory visit to watch the car be built was available and the person on the phone did not know aobut that yet.

I asked about how service will be done. Routine stuff can be done at any dealer. Lexus will train 15 (traveling) specialists who will cover bigger work. I was wondering about this as there is little motivation for dealers to invest in service for these cars based on the low volume.

Lexus does not have enough heritage with high-performance sports car to make a limited-production car like this and sell it for $350k... it's completely redundant. It's cheap and not a lot are being made. It does not make any sense. I suppose we'll know more in a few hours, but Lexus limiting the production of these things to 500 or so is not even slightly logical. You'd think they'd want to make a GT-R and R8 killer for their first high-performance car and actually compete, but instead they're making this limited production thing which about 99.9% will end up being garage queens.
You just contradicted yourself. Pagani had no heritage before they made the Zonda, and they don't even make their own engines! Yet, why does it get so much respect, apart from the fact that it's from Italy ?

The LFA is no different than the Zonda, heck I give the LFA more credit because it's not using another brand's engine.

It will be a super rare, exclusive supercar, more rare than a Ferrari.
Marketing will be strong, but more direct. Lots of press events at or near race tracks, and likely Toyota will go racing with the LFA.

Not a lot of people are going to be able to enjoy it and from a business standpoint I don't see that as being a plus. You really need to stop comparing it to an Enzo or a Zonda, though...

I'm going to stop the discussion right here because we're going in circles.
I honestly think it will do A LOT for the Lexus brand image. I think it will do more than what the NSX did for Honda.

If the rumored GSF gets a variation of the LFA's V10, that will be tremendous marketing for the GSF, via a halo effect from the LFA.

You're not making any sense. So the Zonda is a good thing for Pagani, but the LFA is really bad for Lexus?

End of story REALLY ?
Lexus.com's "official" 0-60mph time is still 5.6 sec. right NOW on it's website.
But we already know a long time ago that a stock IS350 can achieve sub-5 seconds 0-60 times.

I can't believe I just wasted my time in answering this post ...

I don't quite consider it an exotic also. I think it's a Super-GT car, but not an exotic. And 375 is wayyy off the mark. How can you enter into a new niche segment and out sell Ferrari from the jump!?

I think it's too high too, but I don't think they are worried about selling all 500 of them.
C&D actually said it's a good value compared with the $700K Enzo in their review LOL.
Of course I don't think an Enzo is "worth it" too for what you get compared to other Ferrari's and supercars, except that they only made 399 of them & it's rare ...

This thread is really great, in fact I love it! The way people are reacting is just priceless! If this car was priced less, or had LF-A II styling it would get a lot less attention that it is getting right now. Toyota is laughing it up, because it wants the LFA to get as much attention as possible .

Looking around all over blogs and enthusiast forums, a lot of people are shocked, almost borderline insulted by this car. A lot of it has to do with the price, some of it with the "in your face" styling, and some of it with the car's capabilities.

Right now, there is a TON of official information that is hidden, and floating around out there. I have read most of the information out there, but am still reading.

All I will say is, after my initial dissapointment with some of the specs, looking really deep into the small touches, the details, the pursuit of perfection, this car truly IS amazing. The car really is a bargain, and the car's paper specs alone come nowhere close to illustrating what this car really and truly is about.

The amount of technology and innovation in this car blows away the GT-R, or R8.

NOTHING in the supercar class comes close the the LFA in terms of interior, save for the Veyron. I repeat, NO other supercar other than the Veyron even comes close to the quality, craftsmanship, and refinement of the interior.

The V10 engine is smaller than a conventional V8, including being smaller than the ISF's V8. The engine also weights about as much as a Honda V6. The engine revs from idle to 9000 RPM in 0.6 seconds. The engine is truly a marvel. Those comparing it to the M5's V10 don't know what they're talking about. The engine makes a minimum of 320 lb-ft of torque (peaks at 354 lb-ft at 6800 RPM) from 3700 to 9000 RPM. The torque curve over a range of 5300 RPM remains extremely flat. The engine even meets EURO 5 emissions !

This car is a Lexus in terms of quality, durability, and reliability. It is also an exotic and exclusive car. It is a supercar and at the same time an extremely pure and visceral driving machine. It is a rolling showcase of state-of-the-art technology from Toyota. It is all this, and more all wrapped up in the same car.

I will write up a bit more of my final opinion when I have time, as well as some of the tidbits of the amazing technology, and pursuit of perfection that went into this car.

Just to mention one more time, my opinion on this car has changed completely after yesterday. Many of us, including myself, never realized how high the goals were for this car, and what extent Lexus went to in the pursuit of perfection.

I also have one thing to say to all the Toyota/Lexus enthusiasts dissapointed about the price and availability; the goal and aim of this car was not for us to be able to acquire or afford one. For all the true Toyota/Lexus fans out there, the goal if this car is to have pride, to be PROUD of what Toyota is capable of and what they can achieve. This is a showcase halo car. Some of the technology and innovations in this car WILL be found in future models that we *can* afford and acquire. Like many of you, I too was dissapointed for several reasons yesterday. I will be the first to admit I was wrong about my assumptions with this car, including it's intended purpose and goal. Toyota will choose and select what customers can buy the car. Waiting lists around the world are likely filled right now. Demand is guaranteed to be higher than supply. Toyota is going to choose the best customers that can showcase this car. The car was never meant for us "regular" Toyota/Lexus enthusiasts to be able to own. It is a car for all people to dream about, to lust after, to raise a halo for Toyota. This includes most of us Toyota/Lexus enthusiasts. As Toyota is choosing who gets to buy the car, having the money to buy it is not enough. Hopefully some of you might start to realize what the true purpose of the car is. Think of this car as a state-of-the-art exotic race car, the only difference being it is street-legal and that it is also a luxury car.

I laughed so hard when I heard the price. $375k? that's like hyundai pricing Genesis at 110k!

seriously this is a great car, but what are they thinking? they are overcharging at least 200k. unbelievable.
