Lexus Test Driver
Video of 5 supercars in Europe:
1 - Lexus LFA
2 - Ferrari 458 Italia
3 - Porsche GT3 RS 997.2
4 - Lamborghini LP-560-4
5 - Mercedes SLS AMG
It could not be more clear that it is a 5 way comparison test. IMO, it is way too soon for LFA to be in there. That makes me worried that Lexus is providing these beaten down press ringer pre-production LFA to the press, which is being compared with fully finished and production models. That puts LF-A at a disadvantage when the transmission is still being tweaked and the launch control system is still not there in the car yet (which is important considering every test so far says LFA is too difficult to launch without launch control).
When the car has not even reached the first customer yet, a pre-production model review can be detrimental if the review is less than stellar (for a car at this price point):

LFA around Goodwood- a little feedback at the end. Conversation was funny because of the language barrier.

Another one, this one even longer, about 15 minutes with a number of laps in the white LFA- seems like he likes to push it, but even then at 150mph it's like the LFA isn't even being pushed to it's limits, an easy 5-10mph could be found out of it, watch!

All in all, I agree with you. Not exactly fair for prototype LFAs to be battling production 458s and Gallardos.

Some more tidbits about the LFA via its Chief Engineer talking with the Bangkok Post:

Haruhiko Tanahashi, head of the LFA's development programme, is another of Lexus's chief engineers taking much pride in creating an image-building, high-performance car. Motoring talks to him.
- Why build the LFA?
I wanted to show what I have always wanted to build. The LFA is the pinnacle of Lexus's engineering, and I have been given the privilege by Lexus to do so.
- Was series production ever considered to lower the LFA's price?
No. The LFA was always intended to be a limited production model with exclusivity. This was the purpose of it.
- Will there be a faster version?
[Smiles]. I can't say anything on that. (The Nurburgring version has 10hp more than stock model but is not faster from 0-100kph).
- Have you considered a dual-clutch automatic gearbox for the LFA?
I've tried Volkswagen's DSG around Nurburgring. Although it must be said [that DSG] is smooth, such a gearbox doesn't suit the LFAs boy-ish character.
- But isn't refinement one of the key brand values of Lexus?
Yes, but I prefer [the automated manual gearbox]. I really don't care whether it doesn't suit the brand.
- What were the benchmark cars for the LFA during development?
None. There were no benchmarks. Just the LFA on its own.

Seems to be some event in Japan. Available in 720p. Ah, the sound. How many LFA prototypes are RHD, anyway?

Plus, one of the LFAs made an appearance over the weekend at a Lexus meet at Lexus of Westminster. Thread here, which includes some user-posted photos and videos:

Also, I randomly found myself in London last week so swung by Park Lane, but their LFA is still out and about (maybe at Goodwood, etc.?) so didn't get to see it. The receptionist seemed amused when I mentioned I was an LFA buyer from the US; I need to remember to bring my LFA jacket next time I travel to the UK so I have some street cred . I did take several pictures of their showroom, where there is LFA stuff all over the walls - I'll post them when I get a chance.
