The interesting strategy move shows Toyota's faith in the future of hydrogen.

It just kind of feels like the whole hydrogen thing has sailed? I think electric vehicles should be the focus now. But hey, I'm no engineer...

They've invested a tremendous amount of money in the hydrogen concept. Everyone else (in the mainstream) is going electric, except for Hyundai. For now, hydrogen is only feasible in California. Even there, not enough filling stations, and at the end of the day I think the jury is still out on the savings. The concept of hydrogen is much more interesting than electric, but can they make it work economically? And how much scale do they need for it to be comparable? Did you see the new Toyota Mirai? It looks really nice... looks like a Lexus LS!
