92 Es 300 CD Changer broke , can I put a retail Cd changer with my factory stereo?
Hi , Can I put a Retail CD Changer with my Factory Es 300 stereo ? Just fixed my factory stereo button that broke off, using this site, now that my stereo works, I would like a working CD changer, mine doasn't seem to work anymore. My CD Changer is a factory one that went with a factory stereo, it was originally installed in the TRUNK not the dash. Can I put a retail cd changer in the back that will read off the factory stereo? Are they compatible? I wouldn't really know how to fix my cd changer, any hints on that too? The cd cartridge doorway won't open, and I don't have a cartridge anymore to test it. It might just be worth it to put a new one in that doasn't skip, if it reads my factory stereo.

Reason: explain location of cd changer
Let me know if it works because someone at a local shop told me that only the factory changer works with the factory stereo. cant have aftermarket stereo with factory cd changer or aftermarket cd changer with factory stereo. I want to find out if its true or not ...
thats not true, they sell aftermarket cd changers to plug right into the factory harness of cars that had the changer option but no factory changer.
the old changers stink, they usually dont play CDRs, and they dont play MP3s.
I got a used one for my ES300 and it was also bad, repair was huge dollars, so I went with a Sony CD/MP3 changer, it held 10 disks, had a remote, and played more music then I knew what to do with because it was MP3 also.
