Got a 1995 ES300. Raining morning Xmas day and car won't start.
When I turn key, I hear rapid clicking sounds. The car hasn't been used in a few days. There is light, radio works. Do you think it's a weak battery or a bad starter? Should I check the distributor cap for wetness?
Wife finally came back home from outta town and I was able to jump start my car. Left it running for a few minutes, then turned off, then turn back on, it works again. But I will go out and buy a new battery just in case.

Take the battery down to any Autozone (or equivalent auto parts store) they should test the battery for free.
If the battery is fine but it goes dead again get the alternator checked out.
What that clacking noise was was the starter solenoid didn't have enough juice to keep the starter gear engaged.. so the gear clacked in and out rapidly. It takes far less power to operate the lights/radio.. which is why they still worked.
Always make sure the battery terminals are the tight first, but you may just need a battery, but on the other hand, you may also need a starter if you have high mileage!!Do a starter test on it,by just trying to start it a couple of time, but don't fully start the engine,if at one point it no longer wants to start the engine, and it just does a click(with a good battery of course),thats a good indication of a starter malfunction..
