cd changer problem
My cousin bought a '92 ES300 about a month ago and the dealer installed a cd changer for him when he got it. Since he does not have a CD button on the radio, the radio has to be turned to a certain radio station, which the cd player can be heard on. This makes the quality of all the cd's sound like the radio which isn't very good. Has anyone had this problem or know what to do?
Pearl, there is no non invasive alternative for interfacing a CD to a '92 OE headunit - the unit your cousin converts the CD signal ( via FM modulation) to a radio station that the FM receiver in the head unit picks up and plays. The bandwidth is that of the FM section in the headunit. I went though the same process in my first Toyota a '93 GS300 bought new. The only option is to tap into the preamp where the casette signal enters the circuit. I'm halfway decent at this kind of stuff...I tried and failed.....t's not worth it. I ended up making high quality tapes...of course, the proliferation of CD's was nothing of the scale it is now. If CD quality sound is paramount...pull the headunit and go aftermarket.
Good luck,
Bill
