I've recently move into new condo and didn't come with a parking space in basement and need good alarm system til parking space is available to purchase. Is Clifford still make good alarm? Need some help?
I'm really concern because my area Lexus is one of the favorite cars to steal!
lexus are pretty hard to steal. almost impossible unless you tow it.
well letz see, on my first gen gs300
1. when the alarm is activated. after 30 sec. and you try to stick your hand inside and unlock the door. the door will not unlock and stay in the lock position and the alarm will sound. no matter how hard you push it to unlock it will stay locked.
2. when the windows are rolled up all the way they go into a ledge like so its impossible to pry the window out and push the lock open, which brings you back to number 1.
3. the key is specially cut. so you can't just stick a screw driver in to start the ignition like most honda's/acura/toyota.
4. you can't stick your hand under the hood and try to pull the cord to pop the hood to cut the alarm. there just isn't enough space and the pull cord is hidden well. unlike honda/acura/toyota you can just stick your hand in pull it. alarm will sound for 2 sec until you cut the alarm
Don't get a false sense of security by overestimating the level of difficulty of stealing a Lex. After wiring a few alarms and remote starting on a few Lexes, I found it was easy to disable the alarm and startup the engine by jumping a few wires under the dash. The only thing left was to break the steering lock mechanism, which amateur car theft would not have much problem, and the Lex is gone... All in less the 60 seconds.
I agree. Fugget the alarm. Pro thieves can get around that in a pinch. The car'll be gone between snores.
While there's not much you can really do against a pro thief, I think a AutoLock (clutch/brake lock) is perhaps the best protection. Steering wheel locks are useless.
I just picked up a later model SC300 also and will have to park it in the street. The car comes with a Viper alarm, but I don't put too much faith in it ... AutoLock will give me alittle more security.
Then again, if it gets stolen, that's why we have comprehensive insurance...
Installing an alarm won't hurt, but like the others have said it wont stop some thieves. Clifford and the Viper line are pretty good imo. When it comes to alarms, do not underestimate the value of a quality install. The install can make a huge difference.
