Default Opinion's on System?

Background.......

I'm 44 yrs and like good clean bass but I don't need ground pounding, teeth chattering BASS. I listen to pop rock, Yanni, some soft stuff etc.

Our 93 has the Nakamichi option and the previous owner upgraded the sub and added an Amp to power it. It is mounted close to the Sub. I like the way the sys sounds.

Now our 90 has the so called "premium" system WITHOUT a CD changer. What I want is the ability to play CD's but I would rather not have the original factory look changed by an aftermarket unit in dash.

1. If I did the same thing on the 90 as the previous owner did with the 93( add a better Sub w/ it's own Amp) would that be ok? I actually am not that dissatisfied with this stock system. I would just like more Bass(clean bass too) and......

2. The ability to play CD's.

What Sub would you recomend for the rear and what Amp to power it? And what CD options do I have?

TIA.

Perhaps an Image Dynamics IDQv2 with say...a US acoustics USX2100?

IMO the IDQ's are great SQ driver and they worl well in small sealed enclosures.

The USX's are pretty solid amps for the money.

You could add an FM-modulated CD changer that'd play through one of your FM radio stations, but this restricts the SQ and frequency response of the changer to that of the FM radio. Maybe you could find someone or somewhere to listen to an FM modulated changer and see if the SQ loss would be a big problem for you. The other option may be to find a used factory HU that'd control the changer and a factory changer. You'd have to at least run a wire from the radio to the changer, and you'd need to check and see if there are any other wiring differences between the CD and non-CD cars. I see ES stereo's on E-bay frequently, I would think you could get a reasonable deal for your car if you looked around a little.

The factory sub is in an Infinite Baffle setup, correct? If so, you'll need to look for a sub that will work well in IB installs, or build a box that'd attach underneath the deck. The box method would give you more options for subs, but would be more difficult-costly on the install. The other big thing you can do is to sound deaden the rear deck, this will probably make a pretty big difference in the output and quality of any sub you put in there, probably even the factory sub's sound could be improved by sealing the deck up real well. I wouldn't switch your sub without doing this.

Hope this helps a little.

When Yanni puts you to sleep and you collide with the trees in the forest, can you still hear the bass??? (Sorry, just playin' with ya, I couldn't resist!)

Some people have had good results with the JL Audio 10IB4 free-air sub. Not sure what the install difficulty is in an LS. Can be easily paired with the JL Audio 250/1 amp.

DK, since you are in San Diego I can give you a little SQ demo of my audio system. Since it's the same car it would help you to decide what kind of sound you are looking for exactly.
