CD player error..
I forgot to mention the "every other cd thing" idea I mentioned ONLY works w/regular store bought audio cds and not anything burned.
MY stereo installer told me that the burned audio cds are THINNER than regular audio cds slightly..and they cause slippage.
SO the problem is both the old changer, and also using burned cds

oooooooooooooooohhhhhh. I see. Thats good but oh well because the store bought CDs work fine
I got problems with CDs made from MP3s. My old sony CD clock radio alarm has major problem playing CDrs and its because the CDs seem thinner and lighter than most original CDs.

you would be amazed how easy it is to remove the unit from the trunk, and take the cover off... probably one of the CD's is stuck outside the cartridge. This is a common problem, and solved by adjusting the height of the cartridge in relation to the player mechanism. The adjusting screws will be obvious once you get it apart. May take some trial and error to get the right adjustment, but it can be done with little effort.
My 93 SC has the error code displayed on the stereo, and I was wondering if the changer in my car has the "reset" button as well. Or is it only on the newer cars?
I'll try disconnecting the battery to see if it makes a difference. Thanks!

I think all models have teh reset button. It probably wont do you any good unless you have a CD stuck in there. If you load CDs and dont play after they load than that reset button wont really help. Unless ur CDs are getting jammed or not ejecting than the reset botton will do nothing just try and load/unload a CD and move the magazine around. If you open u lid look around a you should se a little white buttom and I think it says reset somewhere around it and after you close the lid it will do its magic and try and unload the CD if its jammed.
Don't know if people are still having this problem. I used to get this problem, but I fixed it by switching to a better brand of CD-Rs. Most likely you were using the "bargain special" which come in 100 packs for $15 or something like that. My CD changer used to read them ok, but slowly started skipping from song to song as described in the previous posts. I switched to the newer "super azo" disks which are made in a different way, and I have not had a problem with any burned CD-Rs so far. stay away from the cheapies, there's a reason why they are cheaper, like everything else.
I think this whole problem begs a different question:
Can the CD changer be swapped with newer technology that would use the same existing head unit. I'm not talking about FM broadcast stuff. Maybe a newer Pioneer unit.
I have the same problem as you guys. Most normal CDs play okay, but CDRs are hit and miss and often the disk won't load right (can't find the tracks) or if you skip songs it may skip a few tracks and end up in a strange place.
I'm not even talking about wanting MP3 support (sure that would be nice). But a newer unit that delt with CDRs better and had more memory cache so eliminate skipping on bumpy roads would be real nice.
Anyone just upgrade to a slightly newer Pioneer changer with the stock set-up and have good results?

I think most of us have been asking this question for awhile now. I have the wiring schematics for the harness at the CD changer. Looks like a serial connection. They show the signals as TXM+, TXM-, TXS+, TXS-. This doesn't mean anything to me, but maybe someone knows what to do with it.
If anyone wants a copy of the diagrams I have, I'll be mre than happy to email them to you.

I just had a CD stuck in the changer. Guess which one was stuck? yep, the CD-R. I guess i knew it was bound to happen. I had to break the CD to get the cartridge out. Seems to be working fine now.....
Does anyone have any news on an adapter that will let me swap the changer out with another, like an Alpine unit? I had an Alpine in the trunk of my Legend Coupe and it did not skip even once!

My CD player jammed and was making a clacking sound, I took out the magazine, but one cd was still inside the changer, I closed the slide cover without the magazine, on advice from this forum, a cd came out by itself..everything works fine now thanks.
