Rear monitor camera installed.
I've just installed the rear monitor camera in the trunk lock cylinder yesterday and the overall result is pretty good. This project is just for fun, but no real use for it. The image is good, but it give me a headache to watch the monitor, the rear view mirror at the same time. I'd wired it so it will turn on when the key is in ' ON' position and I can switch between Nav, DVD and rear monitor camera. Here some pics.

The pin hole camera's in the key cylinder. The camera is .75 inch in diameter and 1.5 inch long, but the key hole is .9 inch. So, I have to use electrical tape to filled up the space and used the silicon sealant to sealed the gap.

Thanks genearch, I'm glad you've found something you like. The rear veiw mirror monitor is good, so you can have the Nav. and the rear camera at the same time. Like I said" this project is just for fun , no real use for it"

Did you reverse the image?
I think this piece we sell may be good for you instead of hooking it to ignition, you can wire it to the reverse light and have it switch automatically.

Thanks for the info. concepts.
I didn't reverse the image. The car behind me will shows on the left side of the screen and the car on the left side will shows on the right side of the screen. That why it give me a headache, but I will get use to it.
I will e-mail you for my next audio/video buying. You may need to stock some GEX for some of the members before they discontinues.

gene,
is that a valentine one built into the mirror too? wow.
I hope your not planning on paying 1000 for that, because that seems like a lot. If you are though, it would be pretty damn sweet.

Rear view mirror LCD screen
I went to Mobile Fantasy in Sherman Oaks to install a AV and audio system in my GS400, they did a great job! I ended up with an audio only system, though, I can't afford the AV system. They are pricey, but they can definitely do some very cool stuff, they had a rear view mirror with a LCD screen built in on display. Very VERY cool! (and expensive...)

I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately...I like the NAV screen use but another thought I'm having is to have a small screen built into the center rear view mirror. I'm not sure on camera placement since the SC430 has no trunk lock. Maybe somewhere down low like the license plate area.
Is there ANY capable install shop in So.Cal that could make this happen?
