I just ordered a JL Audio 500/5 sub which splits the power 100x2, 25x2 and 250x1. For the front, I chose the MB Quart Q series QM 215.61 5.25" components. I haven't chosen new rear door speakers or a new sub yet. I was thinking about just using a free-air subwoofer. I noticed that these boards have a lot of positive comments about the JL Audio IB4. I went to the JBL website and it says that 250 Watts is way, way too much for the IB4. Any suggestions on a free-air sub that can handle this much power or did I lock myself into an enclosed sub by choosing this amp? I'm much more interested in sound quality than in thumping bass.

 

the IB4 is a JL audio sub and not a JBL, and they are very under rated, but if your worried dont, its ok to use a strong amp on a sub thats not as strong, this way you know your not going to underpower the sub and cause some clipping. Just make sure that when you set your gains you dont turn them all the way up.

P.S. If your looking for SQ I eould go with the JL over the Pioneer, I would also look into alumapro alchemy, it needs a sealed box but a very small one that can hang from your rear deck, if you didnt hear one of those subs you really should they would blow the JL's out of the water when it comes to sound qaulity, I think they even sound better than the ID subs ( I know retrodive is gonna kill me for saying that )
