New to this car. New to this forum. Not new to cars and forums in general, at all. I HAVE searched, for hours! I believe I already know the sad answer to my question, but to be SURE, Im going to ask it anyways! First, an overview of what we are working with:
1998 Lexus GS400 with FACTORY Navi/Touchscreen. Someone has already (prior to my purchase of the car) added an aftermarket tv tuner, dvd player, and headrest TVs.. with toggle switches to override the video to the factory screen (working) and to override the audio through the factory amp (not working). My question is this:
Can I upgrade this unit to an aftermarket anything, without losing the climate controls? Can I put an aftermarket touchscreen stereo with Nav in, and change the Climate controls to the non-navi ones? Or am I forever stuck with this headunit?

Assuming you don't care about the tape deck/volume control, you can change the whole setup out for a full size aftermarket screen and factory non-nav HVAC controls. It's not easy, and it's most certainly not cheap, but it can be done. I'm not about to do it to mine, as I'm completely happy with the screen and don't have any intention of doing a full blown upgrade on this car. I am thinking of adding in a sub or two, but that's going to be the extent.

Hmm.. will try advanced search, if it is available to me. When you say expensive, do you mean with the aftermarket items? Or are you referring to the HVAC controls and other necessary things? If you know of any threads, please do post links! lol Im going to go search again..
