Default Electrical Wiring Question

Guys,

Probably a dumb question. I just wanted to verify. Can I use a lower gauge (16ga) wire to replace a higher gauge wire(18ga)? I understand I can't replace a lower gauge wire with a higher gauge wire but what about vice versa?

Thanks
Jonny

Larger guage wire is fine to replace. Its best to keep the power and ground the same size though.
