Optima vs. ?
Sorry to hear about your battery dying on you.
I've always preached that Optima batteries aren't as good as people say. They just dont take deep charges that well. In fact, I dont know of any automotive batteries that are true 'deep cycle' batteries.
Odyssey batteries are great batteries. I haven't seen one fail like optima.

Its funny, I just went through this dilemma 2 days ago and was going to post a thread about it.
My battery died this weekend. I had to get the car serviced, and I was afraid that something else had gone bad since the battery was only 2 years old. But I did discharge it accidentally while working on the car.
My mechanic tested it and it was a dud. It was such a PITA for 2 days, always having to jump start the car! So I took it back to Sears where I bought it from, and I went in going to buy an Optima.
Sears stopped selling Optimas. So I got this instead, a Die Hard Platinum. Has 880 CCA and a 125 minute reserve capacity.. which is pretty good I think. The brochure talks all about its sealed technology and how its great for all the mobile electronics people use now.
The Sears salesman also went on for a very long time about how Optimas are not great anymore, and thats why they've stopped carrying them... I mean, he's a salesman, so he had to do his job of convincing me to buy what he had.. and it worked. Plus I didn't have time to go shop around, I needed a battery or I wouldn't of been able to start the car to leave Sears
The battery is a similar design to the Optima (totally sealed, can be mounted anyway, etc)..

So far, so good. And it has a 4 year full replacement warranty. I'm pretty stoked about that.

Sorry, Im not into the stereo, discharging my battery issue, but when my battery goes bad, iwant to get a lightweight battery with good coid cranking amps, to reduce weight. The Sears platinum sounds good, but I bet it weighs a ton.

Even many of the websites that used to carry Optima have stopped carrying them. Sears doesn't surprise me. Probably just too many problems with them.
my optima yellow lasted a good 2 years with alot of abuse, but i'd only purchase another one only to " look good" at a car show when showing then i'd go back to a cheap batt like im using now when under normal use.
I am taking a strong look at these batteries, http://www.brailleauto.com/
take a really close look... they are just a relabeled Hawker / Odyssey battery at a marked up price...
Over on DIYMobileAudio.com people have high regards for the Kinetik batteries, but I'd still rather stick with a Sears battery and the convenience of a 4 year no questions asked replacement policy. And the fact that you can find a Sears just about anywhere.
i'm powering 2 amps with around 1600 watt, so i dunno if sears battery are strong enough.
i might go with the kinetik then since i can get a deal locally.
now, my batcap. i have it in my 1999 gs. with my compressor for the ac and my bags on with the system turned up obnoxiously loud (digital designs sub, components and amps puts out approximately 2000 watts rms) and the lights on with the hazards going, it doesnt drop below 12.7 volts. no dimmin of lights or tail lights. no abnormal drop in idle. before the batcap i had the optima redtop in there and the voltage would drop all the way down to 11.1 with just the system bumpin. i love my batcap. i have the 2000 one.
just my two cents. i would go for batcap
