Audio
I just bought my first GS400. It's a 99 loaded with navigation, etc... I would like to replace the front speakers but can't find their size anywhere online.
what speakers were in the '99 GS400 (front and rear)?
any tips or lessons learned from other GS4 owners?
thanks,
-Tom

welcome to CL! Check the Audio forum. There is plenty of info on changing factory speakers there. I remember seeing a thread that Lexbox posted detailing his speaker install. Do a search and you should find it.
Good Luck
Good Luck
Tom -
1) congrats on the purchase.
2) 4" speakers in plastic pods for both the fronts and rears. The fronts have a built in crossover that splits the highs and sends the signal to tweets in the a pillar. The rears are just a flimsy coax 4" in the pod. Some have added tweeters in the rear doors but most are too chicken to cut into their door panels and don't see a need to do it - me being one of the chickens - "bock bock!"
3) there are a few GS owners on here who have really pushed the limits of the modding world. one in particular is BananaGS. He runs a web site that shows step by step mods and he too has a GS4. It's a wealth of information and deserves a bookmark in your computer: http://lexusmodz.netfirms.com/
4) another site is - http://www.projectgs.com/DIY - it's a compilation of various mods that members have done on here in one place. It's not a TOTAL list but it's a good start in that direction and was recently launched.
5) learn to search. I'm not trying to be a jerk but after being a member for a couple of years, I've seen so many newbies come on here and post w/o searching. it's not your fault because you may not know that it exists and this is your first post but you too will wonder why newbies don't search after several months.
ok - enough bullet points - go read the Banana GS and project GS site and buy some speakers!
oh yeah- a great resource for audio equipment is millionbuy.com.

Its pretty simple. A shop can trace the speaker pod on fiberboard and cut it out. Then they will cut out your speaker diameter and place your speaker in the newly fabricated wooden pod.
