A second battery is a consideration in the "four wheeling" world. It is usually a second deep discharge type battery and used to run an electric winch.

An isolation circuit is needed to prevent one battery draining the other. Additionally, each battery needs charging at a different rates. This may require a dual output alternator; the best answer and expensive due to custom fitting of pulley and mount. And they use external voltage regulators.

It is difficult matching your auto electronics to a twin battery supply. It will most likely damage your intergrated voltage regulator in your factory alternator.

Good idea, but it may have a few surprises. There is too many electronic components the could be damaged and stop the car.

The only reason to get a second battery is if you want to play your stereo system for longer periods of time with the engine off. A second battery does little to help deliver more power to your system.

I would suspect your alternator; or it's integrated voltage regulator is about to become defective. Have it checked under load at a good auto electric establishment in your area. I'm not refering to a parts store, but a place that rebuilds alternators.

Sometimes , there is just too much current drawing load on the 12 volt system. They will burn up after a period of time when limits are exceeded.

upgrade your alternator or get a capacitor. you don't need a second battery just for dimming lights
