Most likely, but I would advise against it. With a more powerful amp, that 14 year old sub will blow inside of a week. Makes more sense to drop in a new sub along with the new amp.

Sure! As long as your new sub is a free-air model and you'll also need to confirm the mounting depth since the gas tank on our SC's is right beind the back seat!
You may also need to build a baffle to raise the new sub up a bit to clear the fuel sending unit at the top of the tank.

Also, this is the easy one, ensure the replacement speaker is the same size as the old one.

If you were plannign to use a speaker designed for an enclosure, put your enclosure in the trunk and remove the stock sub completely (leaving the hole), to allow for the bass to port into the cabin of the car.

well i have the a rockfort amp wire up to the stock sub right now, and it knocks pretty damn good, i don't remember what spec i have on the amp, coz my friend just gave it to me and i just hook it up without even looking, hehe, but yeah it is definitly not the best setup, but works well, just don't over power the amp for the stock sub that we have and that's about it.
