Default '05 Navigation Hard Drive Update

I just went to the dealer today (Greenville, SC) and asked about the '05 update. They just got it in but they said they are the only ones to install it. I wanted to just take my hard drive out and swap them out. They want $300 + $45 installation. When will the lexus-parts.com have the update? I would just rather buy from them as my local dealer sucks.

I think the Navi hard drive is just as easy to install as well, but I'm surprised that they made an '05 version since I thought they were not developing for the hard drive based systems anymore.

Yeah, the dealer says this is going to be the last update for the hard drives as the available memory will be maxed out. I am hoping to hear from Lexus-Parts as I would like to be able to do the swap myself without bothering with the Greenville dealer.

Does the update affect how the unit operates (menus, etc, which are very different in my 06 GS than in my 02 ES)? Or does it just update the map and POI data? Are your existing marked points and other settings preserved?

I'm tempted to get this for my wife's SportCross, but I know she'll be annoyed if there's a big change in the look-and-feel or if her settings get messed up.
