Pioneer Ipod Interface: What a dissapointment!

Pioneer Ipod Interface: What a dissapointment!
Hey everyone,
I recently installed a pioneer DEH-P7700MP HU in my 94 LS400. The whole motivation for installing the deck was so I could interface it with my ipod and get a clean signal. I also decided to put an image dynamics free air sub in my rear deck along with an Alpine amp. I started off by using the Aux input on my deck and the Belkin power adapter which also has a line out.
I decided to buy the Pioneer ipod adapter and install it in the hope that I would be able to see what the ipod is displaying on my screen.
The adapter works in controlling the ipod, but nothing shows up on my screen! Instead of getting Track names and Artist names I get "ipod001" , "ipod002" etc. When I try pressing display it doesn't change. When I try to scroll through artist or playlists, which I can do at a very slow pace, it does manage to read the Artist titles as well as genres and play lists. It does not read beyond that.
Does anyone else have any experience with this unit? Are there some options I'm missing? If this is all it does, I'm very dissapointed! I've played with the Alpine ipod interface on the 9855 and its MUCH better. Although that glide touch is very annoying.

I have the Avic-D1 and also the ipod adapter and it is the worst possible thing Pioneer sells. I contacted my rep to let him how disappointing this product was and he told me they are coming out with a better one at CES which is in Jan.
Everytime I use it I want to throw it out the god damn window. Hopefully we can sweat it out till the spring when the new one hopefully hits the stores.
