Does anyone know of a way to mount tweeters closer to (or in with) the stock door location for the mids in a 1999 GS400? I was hoping to do that with my main tweeters and then mount an an additional set of tweeters in my A pillar (CDT audio UpStage Kit).
You can do it if you want to cut a hole in your door panel to mount the new ones.
I don't know why you'd ever want two sets of tweeters up there - too bright, too many highs. Just get one good set.
Good ol Al (pres of Dynaudio) used two sets of MD100s. The trick is to have one of them playing as "main", while the others are crossed over really high, say like 8k and above for "air" to the stage. That's what he did for his demo car...and it worked quite nicely. His other set of tweets was mounted under the mirror and the levels cut so you could barely hear them. He also had them with a cut switch, so you could a/b/a compare them on and off. Worked great. But I have to agree that for most intents and purposes, it's better off to have 1 main set of tweets. Makes things much simpler.

Yeah, agreed, if you're going to tweak the hell out of them. But for most guys, adding a second set is their worst nightmare. Too many speakers, without proper processing, = bad. Less is more if you're going to just throw them at the car and see what sticks, if you know what I mean.
CDT Audio has a "UpStage Kit" which is in essence a secondary set of tweeters and crossovers which they suggest be mounted in A pillars to bring the stage up high on the dash and they recommend installing the primary tweets close to the mids.
