Additional soundproofing
Not really electronics, but still SQ related.
Has anyone done any additional soundproofing on your Lexus? Sure, it's a quiet car, but you can always do with less road noise.
I have a friend who has made his old noisy car just as silent as my Lexus, so I want to see how far I can take the GS.
For those of you who have opened up the doors, has Lexus used any foam/mat/whatever there already?

I lined my doors with Dynamat Super as well as my trunk ( for the stereo ). Really cut down on the resonance more than the road noise. The car was quiet as it was & it's really that way now. Don't remember running into any kind of soundproofing within the doors - also put some rubberized undercoating on the undercarriage to mask road noise.
Thanks Gene,
I haven't found anyone who sells Dynamat over here.
The top SQ installation companies in Stockholm seem to favor a polymer paste called dBaxe:

The doors and the wheel wells (inside the car) will be my primary targets. Then maybe I'll go for the trunk and undercarriage.

thanks.
Dynamat is expensive because it is marketed at the audio market who will pay through the nose for average products.
You would be better off using a professional product. Something like Soundstop from Sound Reduction Systems. www.soundreduction.co.uk

mG - Just pop that felt cover off - it's held on by the same X-mas tree style fasteners as most doors. Pull as close to the visible fasteners as U can get your fingers to keep from possibly tearing the cover but it's pretty durable. Some Dynamat here will really go a long way to reducing potential trunk rattles from bass notes!
I'm afraid that the undercoating will never really set up hard as it's designed to flex with the movement of the frame & chassis. It WILL get to the consistency of road tar in time ( a week or so, depemding on the outside temperature ). I applied mine while I had the tranny out ( & all the crap U havta take off just to get to the darn thing!! )
so it was the perfect time to shoot it. If U don't have plans to do this mod ( or already have ), wouldn't worry about it too much - the Lexus is pretty quiet as it is.
