Default rear fill speakers?

There are many people that question and think well more speakers...better surround sound.. I just figured some of this information would help those who are planning to develop a SQ system in their lexus... I am still working on mine....

reasons why rear fill is not needed in a sq system.
1. the front stage is THE MOST IMPORTANT factor when talking about SQ
2. with the $$ you used for rear speakers.....you could have used it for upgrade your front components or amp, or it could be used to sound dampening doors, panels, etc..
3. since when do you listen to music in a theatre?....wouldnt you prefer a live performance ?
4. yes I know some lexus may have 4" mids up front.....ever think about upgrading to 6 1/2"?
5. remember....more speakers....more complicated...keep it simple...more tuning involved...
6. may interfere or mess up soundstage.....all of the frequenices should be generated in front of you

if you ABSOLUTELY need rear fill:
1. bandpass would be an option
2. you could say passangers...are they chipping in tho for car payments?
3. you enjoy surround system
4. your wife or gf grumbles lol

****Just realize tho that taking out your rear speakers doesnt make it a SQ setup....a lot of tuning is involved when talking about SQ....its also not about which products you buy (well to some degree it is)...but the majority of SQ is all about tuning and the setup...

well anywayz good luck to those who are setting up their audio system, aloha, peace easy

Hang loose, aloha03gs.
Yeah, for a pure stereo SQ system and your basic average music (rock/jazz/classical), you're basically right. I just want to give you another perspective (because....there IS another perspective!).
For those of us that listen to electronic music and/or rap, most of the sonic information is electronically generated, and thus does not come from a "stage" in front. The placement of sounds comes mostly from the mixdown process when the audio track is made, and most of it is not set up for true stereo imaging - it's more like special effects. So there is little reason to attempt to reproduce a live environment. (Hey, nobody stopped watching The Matrix because it wasn't real, did they? ) Secondly, in my car, I've attempted to get the best of all worlds (yeah, there's some minor compromises) and I've set up the system to reproduce the enveloping environment of a dance club, in which speakers and subwoofers are everywhere and there is no definable direction that the music is coming from. I get this by pumping as much clean power as I can to all speakers, and I have tweeters in the rear as well. I spent a great deal of time on setting up crossovers so that sound transitions properly from front to rear, vs frequency. When I want a decent front sound stage for some good classic rock, etc, I just turn down the rears and re-eq a little bit. It's still an SQ system, but very different from front 2-channel or 5.1 surround.
You're right though, more speakers is not better 'surround sound' in the 5.1 sense.
Yeah, it would be easier on the wallet if passengers chipped in for car payments, but since they don't, I get to drive the volume control and the ejector seat controls, heh heh.

Howzit aloha03gs,

I listen to many different type of music and sometimes I just shoot for that 20 to 20,000 Hz reproduction range. I can't stand bass heads, i give props to guys who can produce a full range of sound. I do agree that it's all setup and tuning. I don't need that "theater" setup, i'll go home or to the movie theater if I want that sort of entertainment. Plus I would need to drive around this island twice to watch a whole movie if I had a DVD in my car. So i'm currently planning a simple sound system. It's too bad I got a 03 ES300, can't find a dash kit yet and I'm not that good working with fiberglass.

I'm planning to be the one with the grampa looking car with an awsome sound system. Ha ha.

Know of anyone in the 808 state that can help me out? My friends and I grew up as those "90s" car audio installers who have since retired. I can't stand that Lexus "Premium" sound system!

Much Mahalos!
