Default LC500 is a modern day 928

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. I own a couple of BMW M3's, one of them is a race car, and I am smitten with the LC500. As a kid, I read every article on the Porsche 928. It seemed like the perfect Porsche (to a 12-year-old). It was distinctive, capable of swallowing miles between cities and different in every way possible; it was unique from its headlamps to its rear sunshades. Unfortunately for me, tradition won out, and the ***-engined Porsche won the day, and even I have to agree that the better car won.

With all that being said, I am so taken by the LC500 as a design and a concept. Possibly one of the best designs out of Japan in the last 20 years, a modern Ferrari quality cockpit (I owned a 348 and 355, so I want to be very clear that I mean post-2010), and an under-stressed V8 that makes beautiful noises. Just like the 928.

Anyway, glad to join your forum. I love seeing that the LC500 has so many F-type and Porsche comparisons.

Welcome SeaStudent! So do you have any plans to get an LC? I had no plans until about mid last year when the 'crazy year' effect was in high gear and it was clear no one can plan for anything really so i decided to do the mad thing and get an LC. Took a while to get what i wanted and got that 12/24/20! no regrets.

I owned a 355 Spider for 4 years.

Had aftermarket headers, cats, & exhaust......nothing in the world compares with that sound behind you....

I am smitten with my LC Convertible's sound.....albeit in a different, more mature and subdued way.

I have to agree with your astute observation. I owned, while briefly (14 months), a 1990 928 S4. Red with the red wing out back. That car could devour the miles in real luxury for the day. Loved the pop-up headlights and headlight washers. Although, if memory serves me, the 5 liter in that beauty only put out a bit more than 300hp. It was quite a lot in 1990 but nothing compared to the LC's 5 liter 471hp although it was quite a bit lighter.

So when are you going to take the plunge and get your new LC?

Bitkahuna, Thanks for your note. I am still trying to figure out my car situation. Because of the pandemic, I don't commute any longer. I want an LC500 with a fixed roof because it's gorgeous. I also want the convertible.

I was initially going to sell my race car and then buy an LC plus a Jaguar F-type, with one being a drop-head.
Anyway, that's likely a longer answer than you wanted.

Every drive in the Ferrari was an event. Unfortunately, the engine-out service was an event as well. You are right about the sound. It reminded me of every 1950's to 1970's f1 car, (except the 12 cylinder cars.) All mechanical. Sweet intake and exhaust noises. Everyone should experience that once in their lives.

I'm glad that a 928 S4 owner agrees with my comparison. Both cars seem like the perfect way to get from Zurich to Paris for dinner. Your 2018 is a beautiful car. I'm still working out the timing (and other questions) on getting one.
