Ive used Mobil 1 EP in all of my vehicles and typically change it at about 10k, which is still 5k early according to Mobil 1, but justified bc of the way I drive my cars. I know it sounds like a lot but many cars today that have oil-change indicators will let you go more than 10k before asking for an oil change. Also, anyone who's driven a jaguar or BMW in the 90's would not be surprised to hear about 12k or 15k recommended oil change intervals using synthetic. I think we all have to get out of the old-school mindset of the Jiffy-Lube 3k interval. Motor oil has come a long way and modern engines have come a long way.

The high concentration of metal in the oil is why you want to get it out within 2k miles. Many people do less than 1k miles. Maybe it's a little overkill but this initial oil becomes like microscopic sandpaper.

+1 on Mobile 1 Extended Performance. Higher concentration of additives that reduce friction. Particularly helpful on cold starts. I would suggest, if not doing this already, let the engine fully warm up before putting your foot into it.

Now Mobil 1 has an oil advertised to last 20k or 1 year !

I might try it on my daily driver that has 75k miles...But not on my LC !

The filter is still an important element. This is why nobody does this. Carbon build up / sludge.

Agreed, Mobil advertises a High Performance filter to go with their extended performance synthetic oil.

Mobil 1 M1C-453 Extended Performance Oil Filter

This said, I am going to stick with oil change at 10k.

I have been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10w/30 because I live in Arizona and my vehicles are never are started in temperatures below +40⁰ F. Today the Temp hit +114⁰F. For a filter I use the Wix XP, 57041XP. This is the oil change Regimen I practiced on my ISF and will continue on my LC.

Take it to the dealer, it's under warranty!

None of my Lexus cars have ever drunk a drop of oil, and they're old.

How often do you replace the oil?

That was my original point. My older lexuses never used a drop. It's because this car is so new and I push it so hard that it's eating some oil. According the manual this is normal. Id be more concerned if it's still doing it over the next few thousand miles.

I trust the oil filter to keep it clean. i doubt much of that metal/gunk gets buy the huge filter in this thing. Also, there is so much oil in there that a lot of the contaminants would be diluted as well.

^^^^Sorry you misunderstood. The oil capacity of the ISF with a filter change was 10 qts vs 9 qts in the LC.

Whoa! That's a lot of oil. That motor must be an absolute beast.
