Default 24 LC500 Transmission Lurching

I seem to remember that my transmission shifted smoother than it does now. I have 7000 km and mostly drive in residential or city areas in Eco mode.
The downshifts in Auto just seem to lurch more aggressively. I can watch the gear shifts on the dash and note that when the RPMs change and a lower gear engages, that it will lurch. Many times when I am driving I can also see that the gear doesn't have to shift but there is a small blip in the RPM and I feel the vehicle drag. Sometimes coasting while no gear is shifting will do it.
Of course, there is a noticeable feel when upshifting.
I know that it has a 10 speed transmission but this does not make for a very smooth cruise if you have a smooth feel to the road but your body is always moving horizontally. Its as if the transmission is trying to hold back the engine. Why when idling down the street does the RPM decrease a little bit jerky?

I know that it has a dual clutch transmission but this does not make for a very smooth cruise if you have a smooth feel to the road but your body is always moving horizontally. Where did you get an lc 500 with a dual clutch transmission? Sounds like a trip to the dealer may be necessary. You might have the wrong transmission in there.

The LC transmission sucks for low-speed upshifts and downshifts--mine has been jerky since Day 1.

At speed it is seamless and smooth, though.

That’s disconcerting, should be smooth under all regular driving. ZF makes the best box-have 3,vehicles with them - all flawless.

Dealer says its normal at slow speeds. I had them look at it a week after I bought it. I think 2-3 and 3-2 is the worst at speeds less than 20mph. IDK...maybe it was 1-2. I don't drive much so I just live with it.

Just keep it in M and shift exclusively above 5k RPM, problem solved 😁

I think it depends on the year. 2018 2019 were more jerky. They keep revising the suspension programming every year so by 2022 when I bought my vert it’s pretty smooth.

i don’t notice any jerks in mine. I got about 8000kms on her so far.

I noticed it some when driving at lower speeds (<45) or in slow traffic when in Normal mode. In Sport+ mode not so much if at all. No issues at Highway speeds in any mode.

I find a similar issue with the RXL and NX, so I keep it in Sport mode to prevent “hesitancy” when driving below highway speeds and in traffic.

My 2024 will lurch at low engine speeds around town. Better at higher RPMs. The ZFs in my former BMWs are better in just about all situations.

I find that the trans in my ‘24 seems to shift more smoothly after the drivetrain warms up. Not dissimilar from numerous other cars. But yes, at low speeds, even when warm, the shifts always seem more abrupt than I expected and definitely more noticeable than when up at higher speeds.

my experience is if you're a bit heavy footed in normal/comfort mode the shifts aren't great because it's trying to keep the rpms lower and in as high a gear as possible.
so if you're a bit heavy footed, try sport s mode. otherwise, imo it's fine.

I'm a manual guy from way back, V8's etc for nearly forty years, have dailyed manual Hilux's on & off road for over 20

The ZF in my MK5 Supra is amazing, but I didn't really appreciate it until I got the LC.....

So far I'm quite disappointed with the transmission in my 24

It lurch's, hesitates & can generally feel lost at low speeds, on off throttle applications etc

Feels a little like an old three speed that's done a heap of work with a worn diff and slightly low transmission oil

I'm not sure if its me or the car yet but in manual mode in the top of 1st it refuses to shift up right around the time the limiter cuts in

It wont shift automatically in M in my experience, it will bounce off the Rev limiter.

Yep, should have worded it better, I ask it to shift up but it doesn't or hesitates then bounces off the limiter
