A little lost but I知 no LT
"But it wouldn't have a straight six!" Who cares. Nobody cared when the GT-R switched from an inline 6 to a V6, because it was still a Nissan. The new Supra isn't a Toyota.
Would you buy a Land Cruiser built for Toyota by Jeep? Would you buy a Tacoma built for Toyota by Ford? Of course you wouldn't. Because letting another company from the other side of the planet build one of your most famous nameplates would be crazy.
I'm not criticizing the Supra for its attributes, it's a great car for the money. It's an especially great car if you're a BMW buyer looking for a big discount on a Z4. But it's not a Toyota.

I wouldn't buy any Toyota unless I needed machine gun platform and then it would obviously be rusty old Hilux pickup. Just can't stand interiors in any of them.
When R35 GT-R was first introduced there were lots of complaints engine wasn't development of RB26DETT and in general how difficult V6 was to tune. Now BMW inline six is one of the most tuned engines available today. What Toyota has available today which is even close?

Just here to troll then eh? Best of luck.
I bought this car over the BMW-made Supra because in 20 years I know what a 20 year old Toyota costs to maintain and I know what a 20 year old BMW costs to maintain.
"Without BMW there wouldn't be Supra at all"
What was the MkIV Supra? An overpriced, for its performance at the time, heavy grand tourer that was plenty fast in a straight line. But also the best Toyota could build tat the time.
Sounds like the car this subforum is dedicated to.

There is big difference between Prius and LC 500. Especially in interior quality. Lexus is made by Toyota but its not exactly like Toyota's. Which are build for a price point to compete with other uninteresting cars. Supra was and still is exception but even it is build to mass market and therefore using BMW platform made sense.
I don稚 get why it痴 so divisive.
If you really wanna get into the nitty gritty, majority of the cars today use shared components that are sourced from the same few suppliers. Gone are the days where one automaker makes everything in house and is vertically integrated. Even a Ferrari uses ZF transmissions and GM magnetic adaptive suspensions
okay you can argue that the heart of the machine should be made from that manufacturer, so if you break down the individual components on that engine (like the pulleys etc) they are outsourced too. So then you池e just left with the engine design and engineering.
that b58 engine was heavily revised and reengineered with Toyotas help because Toyota found it not up to their standard for reliability. It痴 literally one of the best engines out there today and a good collaborative effort from two esteemed automaker.
Yeah yeah it痴 not a real Toyota but who cares. It shouldn稚 take away from the merits of the car. For that price, that mod-ability, and performance the supra is tough to beat.
