Default loud idle

do you guys experience a somewhat loud rumbling idle? it's not any grinding noise or anything (in fact, it sounds somewhat mean, and I like it) but do you guys also have this sound when idle or even revving lightly in 1st gear?

No high idle here.

Did you ever manage to get ahold of an IS?

yup, picked up an 08 with 78k yesterday. I don't mean high rpms..my rpms stay low when idling but there is a slight rumbling noise.

Maybe it has unequal length headers. I'm not sure.

Hey NYG it's me again South Jersey Giants fan. On my Wife's new '12 IS-250 the cold start RPM's is higher than any other car I've owned, but I read it's normal for the 2.5 DI engine. No other noise once it's warmed up. Yeah I won't miss Osi either. Hopefully they'll all stay healthy.

Make sure you're using 91 octane to prevent pinging or rough engine.

hey man! great to hear from you again. I hope we get a great rb and linebacker in the draft! Thanks for the input, I really do appreciate it, but again, I do not mean high RPMs. my RPMs are staying fairly low actually, its just a slight "mean" steady rumble when idling or revving on 1st gear.

anyone else here with the issue?

I live up north in Ontario. Here is my experience, almost everyday I start and warm the car a little. When I drive off, at least the first 5 mins the car has this steady rumble when the car is fully stopped. It idles at about 600 - 700 rpm then goes up to 1k rpm. After that it dials down and becomes pretty quiet. Not sure if that is what you meant.

I asked my service advisor and he stated it was designed just so the engine warms up faster during winter times ....

All the best !

hey there, mine seems to be pretty consistent. It slightly "rumbles" even after warmed up. For example, if I'm at a red light, I can hear the engine very faintly rumbling..this will also happen as I accelerate from a full stop on 1st/2nd gear. It's not a "bad" sound but maybe I'm just not used to it. I'm getting an fsport filter today to replace my current clogged one that has never been replaced by the prev owner (even at 76k) so we'll see how it goes.

Maybe an exhaust leak somewhere that can cause a nice mean rumbling sound

dealer is saying it coulf be carbon build up, but they cant "see the problem now" so they cant do anything about it until it comes back. It does it all the time though, so theyre probably just hassling me.

Do you have a clip of what it sounds like? Maybe that would help us better understand the sound you are hearing.
