Talking IS250 Differential Oil Change

Hi,
I wanna change the differential fluid. I'm not sure the dealer shop would change it with a synthetic oil other than the OEM. I ordered 2 quarts of Red Line 75W90 Synthetic Gear Oil and will bring it to a nearby dealer shop. Is it possible?

I'm in College Park, Maryland. If you know a better shop to do the job, please let me know. I think the dealer shop may be expensive although I bring all the oil.

Welcome to Club Lexus!

Most dealers will do it, as long as you bring the oil with you. Which you will be, so it should be fine.

I thought diff gear box does not require maintenance or it's the main trans?

The dealer should change the oil for you with whatever you bring, it'll be labor only.

The Trans, the diff oil has a mileage interval but I don't recall what it is exactly.

The trans does not require any maint. but the rear diff can and should be changed. I did mine at 50k and will do again at 100k, probably overkill but i'm **** about maintenance.

Is there a way to check if the diff oil is low or not?

only way to do it is to pour new fluid into the fill hole with the rear end level, once you see fluid start to come out the fill hole it's full.

Not sure if same on all 2IS but you'll get the idea. 2 quarts of oil is all you'll need.

The differential oil does not need to be change on our 2is... read your owner's manual.

This.

Unlike the transmission it can be changed... but I've yet to see anyone present a genuine good reason to, especially since it's not even a limited slip diff... and the owners manual certainly never calls for doing it.

I'm sure any dealer will be happy to take your money if you insist on it though

Man, after getting my hopes up I find out our "limited-slip diff" is only electronic in nature! Geez, looks like I'll be getting a Quaife LSD at some point them. That's just BS if you ask me.

It's not really electronic actually. They call it a semi-LSD, as there is a mechanical preload device inside the differential that helps with traction when trying to get moving on low-traction surfaces. The electronic aspects are mostly just traction control (throttle-limiting) and stability control.
