Talking My "DIY" WORK rim repair :)

PLEASE READ FIRST BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE OR FLAME ME

So as many of you know, couple months ago my Work black chrome plating were flaking off on all 4 wheels due to the damn "Canadian Road Salt" on the roads. As shown below.. There were no other solutions but to get it repaired as the flaking was spreading.. The only areas that were not flaking is the face of the spokes..

SO...... what did I ended up deciding to do...?

Here comes the flaming..

That's right I plasti dipped my Work Wheels!!!
Lol I already can imagine what some members would say... "I would never do that to my work wheels/lexus!, would never use such a cheap product for a $3000 wheels, Do it once do it right!, You just ruined your wheels...!,"

So let me explain why the hell would I decide to plastidip on WORK wheels and on a lexus!!
  1. Mind you I live in Canada so we are limited in services/products. Things up here cost 2-3x more than stuff in the states.
  2. After a month of calling around, it was concluded that no one in near provinces do just NORMAL Chrome plating on wheels...
  3. Got quoted from 4 different wheel repair shops that just powder coating it black will cost $400CAD/WHEEL!!! Total = $1700US + 12% tax... (They need to strip the chrome and a lot of labor work..)
  4. Shipping it to States would have cost as much or even more..
  5. I chose Plastidip over actual wheel paint because didn't need to sand and do much prep when plastidipping. It'll hold the chrome flaking together too..
  6. Plasti dip is reversible if i screw up or decided to quit..
  7. It'll propel against rock chips and not chip off like wheel paints..
  8. Best of all.. cost me $25CAD... and 1 day duration... I just can't bare to spend that much money repairing the wheels and lose the Work Black Chrome.. I rather spend that money to something more profitable and higher returns..

Here it is:

So it's been over a month now and still holding up just like new... I guess i can say i'm the only one with Work Black Chrome T1S w/ Black accent

I also had to stare at your pictures for a while to find the difference. It was like playing Where's the Plastidip! I think you'd only have gotten flamed if you did your entire wheel, but using it the way you did as a sort of temporary fix is ingenious!
