DJ_Amtrax is right... simple lube is what has been stopping moonroof squeaks for many many years...

Took everything out and drove, still rattling, had my friend ride in the back, still rattling. It kinda sounds like 2 plastics rubbing against each other. Checked if everything was tighten down. Nothing is loose. Suggestions?
Have your friend sit in the back and apply pressure to the center of the rear deck... If this fixes the problem (which I'm pretty sure it will), then you just need lots of foam underneath your rear deck to create pressure...

My car had rattling problems from the back and I got it fixed a month ago. It is actually a manufacture defect and is covered by Lexus. The problems is that when it got warmer some plastics started to fail and rubbed against each other. They should be able to fix it if you show them the noise, have a technician ride with you a block or so.......

Mine is hard to pinpoint. It only happens every so often like when going over speed bumps or rough road. Sounds like from the rear passenger are but way back like in the trunk. Not like metal rubbing but like plastic knocking. Took it back to the shop that did my springs and everything is tightened up good. Could it be the muffler swaying. I read in an earlier post that the mufflers were pretty loose.

my wife's is-250 have the same kind of problem(have rattle noise from the driver's side seat belt assembly area), and we can only hear the rattle when the car was under the sun for hours...I just took the car to the dealership and try to have them fix it...but still haven't hear anything from them yet. I will keep you guys posted.

yep me too. been trying to find a DIY to remove the b pillar plastic and liner to take a look at it. i'm sure it's simple, vs. taking it to the dealer to possibly make it worse.

anyone have a diy for the b-pillar?

It's not the B pillar. Dj_AmtraX nailed it on the head. It's actually the weather strip on the door. If you treat it with the 3M silicone as he said (and he posted a really great link on how to do this), the problem will go away. Mine had the exact same issue and so did his (a buzzing noise in your left ear that sounds like it's coming right from the seat belt mount.)

Just an update: The tech. from dealership heard the noise, and our service advisor said they did put more insulation at the b-pillar, but the noise is still there after the car is sitting under the sun for a long period of time. Might try to bring it to different Lexus and see what will haappens.

You are wasting your time. here is a picture of the lube again.

3M™ Silicone Lubricant Plus, Wet Type
A high solids, high viscosity aerosol lubricant designed for lubricating moving parts, eliminating squeaks caused by friction; protecting against rust and corrosion; sealing out moisture; preserving plastics, rubber, leather; etc.

It is a special lube. Make sure you get the right one. Otherwise, you may have a pre-mature weather-strip failure.

Try it first. If the problem persist I have another solution.

Hi wjimmy. You noted (though many years ago) that the creaking/squeaking noise from the rear windshield "...is actually a manufacture defect and is covered by Lexus. " My 07 is out of that "everything" warranty, though still only has 41k miles on it. I first had the issue last year at this time when the car had just skipped a couple of months out of warranty. The sun is back and so is the rattle. Wondering if there is any reference I could take into the dealer that cites a manufacturer defect so I can get this fixed.

Thanks!

John

The only warranty that would cover this is the factory 4 yr/50k mile warranty, which you're out of. Neither the powertrain nor any extended warranty (CPO/VSA) will cover it. So there's nothing you can "cite" or claim to the dealer to get it covered. Strictly and technically, this fix is not covered by any warranty for you.

That said, you're welcome to call Lexus corporate and complain and see if they'll work with you. However, for a small issue like this, you're more likely to get traction if you have a dealer you work with and have a relationship with. Many dealers will fix a small problem if it means retaining a customer for the long-term.

Has anyone used this 3M lubricant? Where should I spray it? Any pictures?
