Default extended warranty

When i bought my 13 ISF almost 2 years ago, i bought the extended warranty. Reading through it last night i noticed that it does cover exhaust manifolds. Since my driver side header is cracked, what do you all think the possibilities are for getting them replaced with PPE instead of factory ones.

If it's anything like my extended warranty then the chances are slim.

When I get a warranty work done through the dealer they request the service notes and look at the itemization of parts used.

That has been my experience anyway....unless you have some unusual relationship with your dealer and they will just slip new headers in...and take the liability.

Non existent. PPE aren’t carb approved. It’s a legal issue. Your dealership can’t even if they want too, unless they commit fraud and lie about it.

While I think I understand what you're getting at, CARB (California air resource board) shouldn't have any jurisdiction outside of California in terms of legality. Now PPE's don't come with cat's and they replace the factory exhaust manifold that has the cat integrated into it so they are not considered emissions legal if your state of residence tests for them.

Finally, I know of at least one ISF that has had headers installed by a lexus dealership, so no it's not impossible, the labor was quite expensive but they did install it. In this case unlikely given that it's based on your extended warranty.

If it’s a third party warranty I’d try to find an independent shop who would be willing to do that for you. I’m a service advisor for an independent shop and have some customers who have requests like this I often finesse.

thanks for all the responses. Figured it was a shot in the dark to happen, but worse case scenario they say no. I know i would have to pay for the PPE headers, just wasn't sure if Lexus would put them on for me.

How many miles on the car btw? Another 2013 here, just hit 33K miles. Curious when this problem usually appears.

Yes and no. Multiple states use the same standards as California now, and federal laws everywhere state that you must have cats. No dealership can legally do this.

I have the car that has the headers that were installed at a dealership. That dealership had a subsidiary, a separate legal entity that modified cars. That entity installed the headers. It’s a loophole. They were installed at the dealership, but under a different business name. It’s extremely rare, and very illegal.
