That would be S mode. It still works like you are in D, but limits the maximum gear the TCU will allow.

Perhaps it's best to use Auto until you're familiar with basic manual operation. There are way too many variables to give you one gear and rpm for a given type of situation. Sport mode does a wonderful job of trying to read your mind. You'll know when its time to use M mode when you find that the AUTO isn't choosing the right gear for what you want.

Perhaps not. Using D means the car will coast down when you lift off the throttle. In M, it behaves like a proper three pedal drivetrain and will push you against the shoulder harness and greatly transfer weight forward without touching the brakes. Driving in either mode requires understanding what the car will do next and the responses are significantly different if you are anywhere past the middle of the rpm range.

In Manual mode with the car in optimal temperature and coasting to a stop, you can downshift into first at 25-27mph.

If you're coming in HOT and full braking, sometimes you'll be lucky to get into first earlier.

NEVER touch that throttle when going into first until the shift is COMPLETE.

Always wondered about this. While in manual mode, is it safe on the transmission to let the car downshift on its own? Don’t want to do anything to damage the transmission, since I don’t know how much the car relies on the driver in manual mode when it comes to shifting. I drive a 2019 Lexus GS350 F-Sport

This is the automated revmatch feature. It's ideal for keeping power when going into a turn as it keeps the power band up. It IS intoxicating - I'm constantly meddling with it, particularly when I'm demoing the car for someone else. If you get the RPMs high enough, but not too high, you can downshift & produce it anytime you want. I typically pop it coming down from gears 3-6. Think about going into a turn in a car with a manual clutch. You downshift because you're slowing down, then bringing the RPMs up so you can maintain power. I had no idea the ISF even did this until a friend was doing it manually in his e92 M3. I tested it in the ISF and was ecstatic at the result.
