Did this mod back in the day to my Volvo S60R.......essentially ran a tube from the fog light grill up to the airbox for a ram air effect @ WOT

Truth be told I've thought about a mod similar to what I did for the F but didn't know if it was necessary with the RR intake box sucking air from the fender liner and through the snorkel how it enters the box as is???

Let us know if you notice any IAT differences based on prior readings....

Yamaha proved this years ago with their street bikes. No speed, no pressure.

I was thinking this as well. Even on my old E92 M3 the car had the grill duct to the airbox and the driver side duct on the bumper went into the airbox as well, but I thought as you guys stated the ram effect didnt actually work below a certain speed

But then again the car couldn't have a ram effect because the air box was technically open, it vented out of the hood vent

yes, worked well on track. switched to silicone too. Overall, the difference in averages is 5 F. Not ducted ran 5 F hotter peak temp. And ducted ran 2 F cooler low temp.

Good data...

I would be awesome to know how much timing the ECU adjusts based on IAT.

In my old Suby tuning days, I recall that the ECU would be aggressive in pulling timing with just a few degrees of IAT change. So although 5 degree drop in average IAT does not seem like much, it could avoid a pretty significant pull of timing depending on the thresholds setup in the tune itself.

For reference, when I was doing an extensive number of datalogs over a series of months with my IS350, I found no direct correlation with changes in ignition timing advance and varying IAT recordings from the ECU (60-120ish degrees). However, there was a direct correlation with increased IAT and significantly reduced MAF g/s readings (less dense air). It's possible that there might be timing pulled back at significantly higher IAT (i.e. 130-140+ degrees) but I've yet to confirm from that temperature range.
