My mechanic says, "build tolerances". Man, that's crap--these are high end pads. I've never had pads do this.

^^^^Yes, they are high end pads and I don't recall of anyone else having this issue. Have you contacted the vendor who sold you the pads? I know that PM stands behind their product.

And, We have a forum sponsor, SpeedFreaks USA who sell PM products. They are great guys, and if you have a problem with your seller, I'm sure that SpeedFreaks would help you out.

They have to have some room in there. Those tolerances disappear when the pads get hot, and if they're too tight, they won't work at all.

Just be sure the issue is not ball joints. Brake click is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks guys. I did PM SpeedFreaks where I got them from. Haven't heard back yet, but it's Friday.

The clunking makes sense, as thinking back it started right about when I got these pads. Only happens when I go over minor depressions in the road. And they said both the drivers and passengers side had play, but it was worse on the drivers side where I can hear it most. From discussions with them, it seems as though they did a pretty thorough inspection--I had the tech and team lead on a 20 minute drive with me to duplicate the problem. At least I know it's not a safety issue, so I'll wait to hear from SpeedFreaks.

Funny that I almost paid the extra 40$ or so to get the 400s that were made in Japan but I was assured the QC of the NS400s made in Thailand or the likes was on par or better. Maybe, maybe not.

I also have some clunking going on up front and have ns400s that were purchased through SpeedFreaks. I've dealt with it so far, but seems to be getting worse. I will take a look this weekend to see if the pads are loose and clicking.

Yep, I had the exact same clunking issue. Got so annoyed with it that I just went back to OEM Brembo's.

OEM is Jurid. It is stamped on the backing plate even when Brembo is silk screened on the pad.

You can't have both quiet operation and powerful reliable braking. Pads with a higher performance expectation are going to be noisier than OEM, and it's essential if they're going to work well at elevated temperatures. Otherwise the pads would stick in the calipers and you would be screaming bloody murder as the brakes literally locked up and did not stop the car.

Even my original OEM pads made this noise. I'm not sure if the dealer tried this but you can try re-greasing them or even check if the retainer clips are putting enough pressure on them. This might lessen the noise.

I figure when I pick up my car today I will go over the normally offensive depressions in the road with pressure on the brake pedal and see if that stops the noise--assuming it should.

Oh well. I'm just glad to know what the problem is, that it's not a bigger issue, and that it's not a safety issue. I'll wait to see what SpeedFreaks says.

Thank you Jz39 and Lobuxracer for the insight. I just picked up some of these pads and will be ready for a bit of extra noise. Worth it for better feel through the pedal.

^^^At least you'll know what it is and not have to wonder if something is wrong with your front suspension. Hopefully yours will be fine.

They are greased properly? I have had OEM, Stoptech, and NS400. NS400 has been the quitest of what I have used. They all have that much play and have never made noise with lubrication and as lobuxracer you need it for the pad to function properly.

from the video it looks like you have the backing plate on 1 pad and not the other? or is that just not shown on the video? could be creating extra room for movment.

I've had both 400 and 800 pads and neither had movement to this extent.

By backing plate are you talking about the shims? If so, I bought new oem shims for the install and as far as I know they were used.

My mechanic is a long time friend and the head tech and GTR mechanic at Nissan who has done many brake jobs for me over the years on Brembo equipped cars and I've never had any issues. The fact that both front sets have play, but less on the passengers side to the point where I can't hear any noise from them from within he car, makes me feel like my drivers side are the issue.

Im planning to get my USRS installed on Th, so I'll ask about lubing them up at that time.
