A friend of mine gave me his tom's diffuser but it has a bit of damage (small crack). I was gonna sand down the sharp part of the cracks and probably some kitty hair fiberglass on the backside just for a little bit of reinforcement. I'll also hit it with a light coat of clear, but I'm wondering how fine i should go with the sandpaper? Should I go with 1000 to 1500 grit or even finer like 1500 to 2000?
Your resin is cracked. If the carbon isn't damaged then you could repair the resin with more then clear. You are better off repairing the damage and paint the edge of the diffuser black and leave the inner part carbon. It has been done a few times with pics on here and looks good. Or..You could just send it to me...😁 Lol
I don't know why everyone wants to paint CF when it's damaged? I think the beauty of CF is, as long as the weave is ok, you can sand it, apply some resin, sand it, clear it and you're good to go. You should be good with 1500, but I think there are some people on the forum that do carbon skinning that will probably chime in and know better than myself.
