I had this issue on my IS250 and it was only apparent at highway speeds. Never at city speeds. Perhaps go with them on a highway cruise to see if they can replicate it at speeds ~60-70 mph.

That's what I told them the first time.. They even brought a tech who 'had an ISF' with the same issue. I had another Dealer A diagnose it before taking it to this Dealer B (my warranty is tied to B). This will mark it the 2nd time Dealer B has completed missed the diagnoses, only to have Dealer A find and correct it.

I'm not sure if it helps those that are suffering with this issue, but it took no less than four visits to my dealer before they recognised the problem.

On the final trip, I took out their head technician and drove 60 miles along the motorway. I drove the first 30, he drove the next. During the first 30 miles I'm guessing he didn't believe what I was saying, but once he took the wheel he felt the symptoms almost immediately.

One thing I noticed was that the behaviour seem to manifest itself once the car was really warmed up - say 20 miles of motorway driving. The symptoms were also more apparent in marginal weather conditions i.e. wet and windy.

Good luck all!

I notice it more in wet conditions.. and also - I'm starting to believe it is only Right-to-left.

Just got mine back, after ~100 miles I can say the difference is so unreal I would do it again at my own cost if I had to. No more drifting from side to side even on tilted roads, steering feels extremely tight and precise throughout the entire range again, most of all the on-center feel is heavy and has no wander at all, feels perfectly predictable and like an entirely different car. This fixed a lot more than just that floaty feel during lane changes. They don't list part #s for it on my invoice but I can only assume this is the system/software on the newer IS-Fs that was so highly praised.

With 255s on the front, there is zero floaty feeling regardless. When I put in the newer steering ECU, all the complaints went away. I am just wondering what else they did to the rack to make it better and also wondering if putting in the later model rack would feel even better than what I have now.

Ill ask my SA if he can find a full list of the part #s replaced, it could have also had a newer ECU put in as part of this fix although I think it was just rack and pinion. It also could have been that I had a particularly poor condition rack, lists its condition as "internal failure" on my invoice. Either way, like I said its an unbelievable difference, it would be well worth the ~$2800 bill if Lexus hadn't stepped in.

Update.. I've been lucky to have the steering rack replaced under extended warranty. I still have the 08' ECU, but that notch I was feeling is completely gone now.

To help diagnose, you need to have winding highways (banking turns at around 65+ mph).
