(Soon to be) New Owner 2012 IS-F
Was browsing one of those new dot-com car selling sites that deliver to your door (don't want to name it at the risk of coming off as a shill, being a new poster) and picked up a 2012 IS-F, Starfire Pearl, 25k miles for $42k. I was actually looking for a IS350 but the IS-F seemed underpriced relative to the IS350s I was looking at.
The site allows for hassle-free returns within a week of delivery so I snapped it up. Just wanted to make sure I got a decent deal, and what I should look for in a PPI.
From searching this forum I understand the biggest changes were introduced 2011 and thus there is a corresponding price premium for 2011+ (above and beyond the car simply being newer), is anyone able to quantify what this is worth roughly? How rare are the 2013 and 2014 cars? I could barely find any for comps.
Are certain colors more or less valuable than others? It seems like there is a premium on USB, much like the RSP color back in the supra days, is that right?
Thanks in advance.

I guess ill take a stab at this.....
Welcome to the forum and best luck with the ISF purchase. I am a little confused as it seems you are asking questions you should be asking "before" you pick up the car? I.e PPI and if you got a good deal on the price you paid. Have you paid for it and its being shipped to you?
The price you paid will be associated to alot of different factors, not all ISF's are price the same. One of the biggest things I noticed was Location the car is at and where the car is being sold. Individual dealer vs private party or even the big name Lexus Dealers. I found some of the west coast ISF's were priced 3-5K more for the same exact model say in the SouthEast states..
As for the 2011's carrying a higher premium in my eyes yes its worth it but plenty of members will chime in and say that they did not feel its worth it. Everyones personal preference. You really cant put a "value" in that sense of what each addition for 2011+ is broken down.. ( itemized if you will). The Diff and the LED lights alone were enought for me to look for a 2011. I didnt want to get a 2009 and have to deal with buying an aftermarket diff and have it installed. Im over all that headache, i wanted a "turn key" ISF..
2012 and on ( especially 2014) will carry a hight premium since the numbers dwindled as the production was nearing its end. 2014's are still going for mid 50K.. in my mind its not that serious.. get a 2010+ if you want a more balanced car. 2008's and 09s are a more "driver's car from what I have seem other members say.
As for colors I cant comment on it, maybe some other members can. I got a USB ISF about 4 months ago. I wanted either that color or the gun metal color being my second choice, SFP being my 3rd. I didn't really see a price difference in them but the USB are a little more rare in that sense and less examples out there.
42K sounds about right for the car you are looking at... did you do any price comparisons with any other cars in your area, not in your area?
What exactly are you looking for in an ISF you want to buy? Are you getting the PPI done before you give final payment or you already gave monies?

Thanks for the advice. I apologize if my post was confusing.
These new internet car selling sites are supposed to "disrupt" the auto sales industry, like uber has done with the transportation industry. It remains to be seen whether this will happen, of course. In short, there is no way to PPI before buying the car. You pay for the car first, they bring it to you, and then you get a certain amount of time for "no questions asked return," during which you can take the car for a PPI. I felt comfortable relying on the Lexus reputation and warranty together with the return window. Are there problem spots that are not obvious to look at?
Good to hear that the price sounded fair. It seemed in line with the numbers I looked at anyway, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything obvious.

2011 and 2012 are both good choices, I think both is well worth the upgrade especially since it comes with revised suspension, led headlamps, LSD, better wheels, and the interior is also a great upgrade with alcantara seats, not sure if the one your looking at has it, but most 2011+ has the option of alcantara.
with 2012+ you will get an even extra layer of icing on the cake, better wheels 2012>2011 and I believe the sachs shocks is an upgrade on the 2012.
when I was looking, the USB were harder to find, light/dark silvers being easiest, black, then white...I think the USB color choice makes this unique isf pop even more...
And that is a great price with that many miles..
Edit** if you snapped it up already post some pics

Welcome to the club
I picked up 2012 IS-F 3 months ago, with 30k miles. Paid about the same as you. I love her!!
You should consider buying a front lip fro Bayson Motorsport. Looks really nice and will protect your front from scrapes.

I bought my 2012 ISF last year about this time for around the same price w/19k miles. I was actually there for an RC-F but I was disappointed in the feel of the car. I couldn't feel anything via the steering wheel, but I quickly felt better after the IS-F test drive! I left the lot with it too!

Thanks all. I'm looking forward to my delivery and lurking around this forum, seems like a friendly community.
It took me a while of searching, but I finally found a link to actual production numbers: http://lexus2.custhelp.com/app/answe...ist/p/190,1292
Only 568 2012s and 139 2013s according to the above site, which makes this the rarest car I will have owned so far. Coming from the Porsche community, the holy grail of recent Porsches is the 997 GT3RS 4.0 ... there were actually 600 of those made!
